Responsibilities

Eastman’s Worldwide Engineering & Construction (WWE&C) organization is looking for a Materials Engineering Co-Op or Intern to join our team.

In this role, you will:

• Provide meaningful deliverables, including technical reports, presentations, and other work products that support materials engineering decisions and the continued safe, reliable operation of Eastman’s manufacturing assets
• Gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting by assisting with metallography, corrosion testing, microscopy, NDE/NDT methods, and related material characterization activities used to evaluate metals and non-metallic materials used in chemical process equipment
• Support materials engineering projects that may include corrosion studies, root cause failure analysis, metallography and microstructure evaluations, chemical process equipment inspection support, equipment and piping fabrication efforts, and other technical work associated with manufacturing assets
• Assist with materials-related work connected to asset integrity programs, including Risk Based Inspection (RBI), corrosion monitoring, equipment inspection planning, and materials of construction reviews for new and existing fixed equipment and piping
• Work closely with experienced Materials Engineers while learning how materials engineering principles are applied across multiple manufacturing plants in a fast-paced chemical manufacturing environment

Qualifications

• Student must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical, electrical, mechanical, civil, or materials engineering from an ABET accredited college or university 
• Preferred minimum GPA of 3.2 
• Minimum two years of undergraduate studies in Materials, Materials Science, Metallurgical, or Corrosion Engineering
• Experience with metallography, microscopy, failure analysis, mechanical testing, corrosion testing, and other metal and non-metal material evaluation is preferred
• Self-motivated with a strong willingness to continue learning through fast-paced Chemical Process Industry projects
• Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, visualization, and hands-on experience
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a team environment
