Medical Laboratory Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

Conducts routine tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, and performs related duties, following established pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical standards and practices.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:        Preferred, but not required

EDUCATION:          Associate/Bachelor degree

CERTIFICATION:  Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist 

                                    ASCP or AMT registry

JOB DUTIES:   

1. Obtains and processes specimens for quality patient testing.
2. Performs laboratory testing as outlined in the policy and procedure manuals.
3. Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
4. Follows the Universal Precautions Policies
5. Maintains required records, reports, and statistical information as directed.
6. Processes specimens for reference laboratory and pathology services.
7. Orders supplies as necessary to maintain adequate inventory.
8. Assists other personnel as required or requested for specimen collection and processing.
9. Follows manufacturer guidelines for all laboratory equipment.
10. Performs, troubleshoots, and monitors quality control daily
11. Reviews reference laboratory reports, and follows up as needed.
12. Consults with other medical personnel as required.
13. Participates on various committees as requested.
14. As electronic systems evolve, learn to use the hardware and software associated with them and how they are integrated within our laboratory system.
15. Experience and competent in blood bank tube methodology.
16. Phlebotomy skills for all age ranges
17. Good communication skills
