Internship - Civil Engineering

About the Job

Infrastructure Engineering, Inc (IEI) is seeking a Civil Engineering Interns for some of our IEI Markets who will have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of our expanding firm. The Interns will be responsible for assisting the overall project development under the supervision of a Senior Engineer. Strong communication and leadership skills are what IEI strives to obtain in our Civil Engineering Interns.

 

What You’ll Do

* Assisting the Project Managers and Project Engineers in reviewing complaints and resolving problems.

* Visiting sites to ensure proper installation per design plans, respond to queries of public and other departments in a satisfactory manner, perform duties such as issuance of permits and review of applications.

* Performing compilation of data and converting the compiled data into plans.

* Estimating the cost of materials.

* Interpreting technical documents.

* Developing her/his knowledge of engineering standards, as well as state and local regulations.

* View and measure on construction site

* Modify existing drawings

* Attend design staff meetings

* Create basic Excel tables

* Organization management - scan and file projects

* Transfer markups to Adobe pdf

* Review existing conditions and existing site photo

* Provide assistance with AutoCAD support

* Help and assist with the performance of quantity calculations

 

To Be Successful

* Knowledge of Civil Engineering fundamentals and general design practices.

* Ability to communicate and interact effectively and successfully with project managers, project engineers, and other staff.

* Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

* Familiarity with AutoCAD software desired

* Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse team.

* Proficiency in MS Office Suite that includes, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and Internet use.

* Develop basic competency / awareness of industry standards

* Acquire real world written and verbal communication and become comfortable talking to clients and co-workers

* Observe and assist with structure of weekly meetings

* Develop knowledge and familiarity of client expectations (needs and wants of clients)

* Demonstrate minimal proficiency in MicroStation or AutoCAD desired

* Assist with the creation quantity spreadsheets

* Help develop and learn technical and business writing skills

 

We'd Like for You to Have

 

 * Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

 * Fundamental knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering.

 * Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

 * Strong team player in a multi-disciplinary environment who can work on and contribute and/or assist with various projects simultaneously.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, possibly for an extended period of time, depending on the assignment type. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud and may require the use of hearing protection.

Pay Range: $17-$25 per hour
