College Financial Representative

ROLE

The College Financial Representative internship at Northwestern Mutual is designed for students interested in entrepreneurship, business development, and client-facing financial planning. Interns learn how to build and manage their own practice by developing professional networks, meeting with prospective clients, understanding financial goals, and creating personalized recommendations. Through coaching, training, real-world experience, and the support of a Fortune 500 company, College Wealth Advisors develop sales, communication, and leadership skills while helping individuals and families move toward financial security.

Our internship program mimics our full-time Financial Representative career, allowing you to:

  • Build and maintain a personal network of prospective clients
  • Conduct fact-finding conversations to understand financial goals and priorities
  • Develop personalized financial recommendations under advisor guidance
  • Follow up with clients and prospects to drive engagement and relationship development
  • Develop and execute a business strategy
  • Participate in marketing, networking, and community engagement activities
  • Track personal activity goals and business metrics
  • Gain exposure to proprietary planning software platforms
  • Engage in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings
  • Get licensed with your Life, Accident, and Health insurance license 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Full-time student; juniors and seniors preferred
  • Entrepreneurial ambitions and interest in personal business development
  • Excellent time-management, strong interpersonal communication skills, and comfortable building new relationships and networking
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative
  • Ability to receive coaching and apply feedback

RENUMERATION

  • Performance-based earnings and revenue
  • Support for insurance licensing (life, health, DI, LTC)
  • Support for SIE, Series 6, Series 63 registrations (optional)
