Marketing & Communications Analyst Fall 2026

Build Appalachia Advisory’s brand, expand our reach, and strengthen how we connect with our communities.

This is a part-time, volunteer opportunity with Appalachia Advisory, a chartered non-profit corporation connecting students and young professionals with underserved small businesses across Appalachia through pro bono consulting.

As a Marketing Analyst, you will contribute to initiatives that strengthen Appalachia Advisory’s brand, digital presence, university relationships, events, communications, and understanding of the markets and communities we serve. Depending on organizational priorities and your interests, your work may span social media marketing, brand and PR, market insights, event activations, and other marketing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute marketing initiatives that strengthen Appalachia Advisory’s brand, visibility, and engagement across audiences.
  • Develop and execute social media and digital content across platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, newsletters, and the website.
  • Support conference and event activations, including event strategy, promotional materials, outreach, and on-site engagement.
  • Contribute to brand and PR initiatives, including communications, storytelling, media opportunities, and brand materials.
  • Conduct market and audience research to identify trends, opportunities, and insights that inform marketing and organizational strategy.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Analysts and organizational leaders to execute high-priority initiatives and strengthen Appalachia Advisory’s broader growth and impact.

We are specifically seeking individuals who are passionate about our mission, supporting small businesses, and advancing social impact initiatives that create meaningful change in marginalized communities.

Ideal candidates should have strong communication skills, an eye for compelling content and design, and an interest in understanding audiences and building brands. Experience with Canva, PowerPoint, marketing analytics, graphic design, social media, research, or communications is valued but not required.

Appalachia Advisory is a chartered non-profit corporation in the State of Tennessee connecting students and young professionals from across the U.S. with small businesses throughout Appalachia.

Through 6–8 week pro bono consulting engagements, our teams provide strategic support in areas such as marketing, strategy, operations, growth, and organizational enablement.

Our Marketing team helps tell Appalachia Advisory’s story, build relationships with the communities we serve, and strengthen the organization’s visibility and reach.

The Growth & Strategy arm builds the relationships, partnerships, and organizational infrastructure that enable Appalachia Advisory to reach more businesses and deepen its impact across the region.

Our work is entirely pro bono for clients providing meaningful professional experience for our members while creating tangible value for underserved communities.
