Music Technology & Innovation Interns
MIE Music Science and Technology, Inc. is seeking motivated interns to join the team developing the Beat On Me (BOM) Kit, an accessible percussion-based music technology system designed for K-12 schools, after-school programs, makerspaces, and community arts organizations.
Interns will work alongside the founding team on product development, customer discovery, educational programming, and commercialization. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in music technology, education, entrepreneurship, product design, engineering, or marketing.
Responsibilities may include:
- Support interviews with educators, students, school leaders, and potential community partners.
- Research customer needs, competing products, pricing, and market opportunities.
- Assist with testing and documenting Beat On Me Kit prototypes.
- Help develop classroom-ready lessons, STEAM activities, and training materials.
- Organize interview findings, user feedback, and product requirements.
- Create presentations, demonstrations, written content, and outreach materials.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving the product and user experience.
- Support pilot programs and demonstrations with schools or community organizations.
- Complete an individual or team project aligned with the intern’s skills and interests.
Preferred qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in music technology, music education, education, engineering, computer science, product design, business, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Interest in music, creative technology, STEAM education, or entrepreneurship.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small interdisciplinary team.
- Comfortable learning new tools and working in an early-stage product environment.
- Experience with audio technology, electronics, software, curriculum development, research, content creation, or graphic design is helpful but not required.
Interns will gain practical experience in customer discovery, product development, educational technology, startup strategy, and cross-functional teamwork. They will also build portfolio-ready work while helping expand access to creative music and STEAM learning.
