Education Program Manager & Developer

Education Program Manager and Developer 

Reports to: Executive Director 

General Summary: This full-time, hands-on position is responsible for creating, developing, and teaching Eco-Justice Center (EJC) programs including camps, field trips, and classes that are in alignment with EJC mission, vision, and values. Also includes coordination of social media marketing and gift shop and revenue-generating items for sale (jellies, alpaca products, etc).  

 

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Program Management (50%)
  • Manage Program Budget and meet revenue goals. 
  • Manage daily program operations and education staff, including: outreach, virtual, field trips, tours, and on-site classes. This includes: scheduling of classes/field trips/camps, communications with schools/parents, funders, posting programs on registration system, scheduling staff, teaching programs/tours, program evaluations, etc.
  • Manage Ad-hoc Instructors. Interview and Coordinate ad-hoc teachers for quality and alignment with vision and values of Eco-J. Responsible for scheduling, communications, supervision, and evaluation of ad-hocs.
  • Develop relevant curriculum for all programs. Align field trips with state standards. Ensure all programming has the resources/supplies needed.
  • Education Intern Supervision. Hire, onboard, and train interns. Plan, supervise, and facilitate day-to-day intern interactions/child management.
  • Program Grants. Assist Executive Director in finding, writing, submitting applicable grants and reports.
  • Implement Strategic Plan Goals. Prioritize and implement education-based goals in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Collaborate with Land Stewardship Manager to ensure alignment of Programming and Land Stewardship goals as stated in strategic plan. 
  1. Live-in Intern Supervision (20%). Responsible for supervising live-in interns yearly from Sept-Feb. This includes: marketing, year-round review of resumes & interviewing, onboarding, training, project goals, check-ins, evaluations, etc. Land Stewardship Manager is responsible for supervision from March-August.
  2. Social media and Marketing (20%)
  • Participate in Marketing committee meetings (and Event Committee meetings as needed).
  • Conduct digital marketing campaigns to fundraise.
  • Social media coordination. Includes but is not limited to: writing content for social media, advertising programs/events, and responding to customers’ queries and comments.
  • Create & distribute promotional materials (flyers, brochures, signs, etc).
  • Marketing for all internship positions: live in interns, land stewardship interns, education interns. 
  1. Coordination of revenue-generating items for sale (5%)
  • Manage Gift Shop budget.
  • Schedule gift shop hours and assign volunteers/staff to hours. Train volunteers/staff on gift shop procedures.
  • Coordinate with Land Stewardship Manager to discuss freezing of foragable land fruits. Responsible for juicing, canning, and prepping for gift shop.
  • Distributing alpaca yarn and patterns to volunteers to be made into hats and scarves each year.
  • Take photos of products and coordinate marketing of products on website and newsletters.
  1. Volunteer Supervision (1%)
  2. Recruit for high school assistant volunteers for summer camps. Oversee training & supervision of HSAs during summer camps. Oversee HSA evaluations done by Education interns. 
  3. Table at events for occasional volunteer recruitment. 
  4. Ensure volunteer assignments provide meaningful, satisfying work in a community reflective of the core values of the organization. 
  5. Other (4%): Includes but is not limited to: weekly animal chores, staff meetings, occasional assistance with land stewardship needs, other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelors’ degree in education, ecology, science, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
  • Minimum three years of related teaching experience and experience in developing and delivering informal science education curriculum/ programs.
  • Experience teaching children ages 4-14 (with an emphasis on 6-10 year olds).
  • Experience communicating with teachers and parents. 
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate teaching strategies & child- and adult-management skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize, design, and implement programs, projects, and activities related to the mission of the organization.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff.
  • Strong commitment to environmental education.
  • Public speaking skills such as voice inflection, varied facial expressions and enthusiasm.
  • Strong professional skills such as the ability to develop positive interpersonal relationships and give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to independently multi-task to complete projects.
  • Strong organization, communication, time management, and leadership skills.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office and related business and communication tools.
  • Content writing experience for all media platforms.
  • Must have excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Managing our online communities to ensure respectful and appropriate engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to:

  • Independently manage time, tasks and priorities 
  • Participate proactively in meeting organizational goals 

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Physical Requirements: Endurance to work outdoors throughout the seasons, lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs, to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, including the ability to walk significant distances, stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and stand and stoop. Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on slippery or erratic surfaces.
  • Willingness to work outside and conduct programs in the evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work as a team member and manage a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to be pleasant with others on the job and display a cooperative attitude.
  • Patience, perseverance, flexibility, and good humor.
  • Reliable, responsible and dependable in fulfilling obligations.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid insurance if using own vehicle for Eco-Justice Center business.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug test.

 

Salary: $45,000/year. This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position with benefits, including an ICHRA health stipend and 3% match of retirement contributions.
