12 weeks (10 – 20 hours a week) for Fall 2026 with a possibility of continuing through Spring 2027 or Summer 2027. NOTE: Stipends are for Gallaudent interns only. 

About the Internship

Artistanda LLC, a Deaf woman-owned company, is seeking a creative and motivated ASL Storyteller Intern to help develop short ASL storytime videos for young Deaf and hard-of-hearing children. These videos promote early bilingual literacy by connecting American Sign Language (ASL) and written English through expressive storytelling.

This internship offers hands-on experience in Deaf education, early childhood literacy, and visual media production, ideal for students majoring in Deaf Studies, ASL/English Interpreting, Early Childhood Education, Linguistics, Communication, or Media Arts.

Responsibilities

• Film short (about 10-20 minutes) ASL storytime videos featuring age-appropriate picture books.
• Use expressive ASL and visual storytelling techniques to engage young audiences.
• Collaborate with the project supervisor to select stories and adapt scripts for Deaf children.
• Demonstrate bilingual (ASL–English) connections where appropriate.
• Apply feedback from mentors on visual clarity, language accuracy, and presentation.
• Upload and organize video content for internal review and possible publication.

• Apply ASL storytelling techniques suitable for early childhood audiences.
• Demonstrate understanding of bilingual (ASL–English) literacy development in Deaf children.
• Produce accessible, educational ASL media content using visual ergonomics principles.
• Reflect on professional growth through storytelling, collaboration, and feedback.

Qualifications

• Intermediate to fluent proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Strong interest in Deaf education, storytelling, or early childhood development.
• Comfort with performing on camera and engaging expressively.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively.
