Software Engineer

Astera is building the frontier of AI in markets: a unified intelligence layer that ingests, structures, and reasons over dynamic, real-time data.

Our thesis: the world runs on events, but the systems that process them are fragmented, reactive, and shallow.

Astera replaces this with a deeply integrated backend system that transforms raw data into structured, queryable, and actionable intelligence, powering both human decision-making and autonomous agents.
 

Role Overview

Astera is hiring a backend-focused Software Engineer to build the core infrastructure that powers our event intelligence system.

You will design and scale systems that:

• Ingest high-volume, unstructured event streams
• Normalize and structure data into unified representations
• Power real-time inference, forecasting, and agentic workflows
• Serve as the foundation for all product and decision layers

You will be responsible for the reliability, scalability, and performance of the system that everything else depends on.

If you want to build the underlying engine, not just the interface, this is the role.

What You’ll Do

• Design and build core backend systems: event ingestion pipelines, data transformation layers, and internal APIs
• Develop real-time data infrastructure: streaming, queuing, and state management systems for dynamic event processing
• Own system architecture: define how data flows from raw input to structured intelligence to downstream consumption
• Build agent-compatible systems: infrastructure that supports autonomous decision-making, orchestration, and feedback loops
• Optimize for performance and scale: low-latency systems, efficient storage, and high-throughput pipelines
• Ensure reliability: testing, observability, fault tolerance, and production stability
• Collaborate with quant and AI teams: integrate models into production systems and enable scalable inference

Qualifications

Required

• Strong backend engineering experience with production systems
• Proficiency in backend languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Python, Go, or similar
• Deep understanding of systems design, including data structures, distributed systems, and architecture
• Experience building APIs, services, and data pipelines
• High ownership with the ability to design, build, and operate systems end-to-end

Preferred

• Experience with real-time systems such as Kafka, Redis, or event streaming
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP, containerization, and CI/CD
• Experience with databases including Postgres, columnar stores, and vector databases, along with strong data modeling skills
• Exposure to machine learning or quantitative systems and deploying models in production
• Experience designing systems for agent workflows or decision engines
