Graphic Designer - Intern

GRAPHIC DESIGNER, TYPOGRAPHY FOCUS

tmrw Magazine · Remote or hybrid, part-time

Who we are

Type is the first thing anyone notices about a magazine, and most magazines treat it like an afterthought.

tmrw is an independent print and digital culture publication. We care about typography the way some publications care about photography, which is to say we argue about it. Our issues go to Barnes & Noble in the US and through Nippan IPS in Japan, so the work you make gets printed and put on a shelf.

What you'd actually do

Editorial layout for print and digital. Cover typography and title treatments. Building a type system that holds across an entire issue without going flat by page forty. Social assets, carousels, and campaign collateral. You'd work directly with our creative director on issue design.

What we're looking for

Taste. That's the real one.

We want someone who has a point of view about type, can defend it, and can also let it go when the page needs something else. Working knowledge of InDesign and the Adobe suite. Show us layouts, not logos.

If your portfolio is mostly personal projects, good. We'd rather see what you make when nobody's asking you to make anything.

What you leave with

Printed work in a magazine on shelves nationally. Actual authority over how it looks. We're hiring for a different eye than ours on purpose, so bring the thing you think we won't expect.
