Before and After School Teacher

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Before and After School Teacher to join our team.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

 

As a Before and After School Teacher, you will support the YMCA Childcare Program year-round to serve our school age children with a variety of activity options to explore and develop the interests and talents of the youth with a focus on safety, health, social growth, and academic enhancement for children to have fun and thrive in our care. Our programs are run in various local schools.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain positive public relations with members and always represent the best interests and core values of the YMCA.
  • Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents, students, school staff and peers.
  • Support student goals, academic or otherwise.
  • Lead curriculum and physical activities.
  • Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and our YMCA values which includes implementation of proximity praise, specific action compliments, our Core Values and our 8 Points of Leadership.
  • Maintain site and equipment, including implementing proper cleaning procedures and upkeep of equipment.
  • Directly supervise children at all times and maintain program/site in compliance with state licensing standards.
  • Attend and participate in family nights and program activities.
  • Attend staff meetings at least once a month at an off-site location.
  • Participate in the Annual Campaign by reaching site goal and asking 100% of the parents in the program.

 

Are you a good fit?

  • You are committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • You are at least 18 years old with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • You have at least one year of experience working with children in a childcare setting.
  • Are willing to enroll in and complete STARS training within 60 days of employment (i.e. Ongoing 10 hours, 20/30 Hour Basic).
  • You are currently certified (with documentation) or are willing to certify in Infant-Child CPR and Basic First Aid within 30 days of employment (YMCA will assist in this process. 
  • You are willing to obtain a Food Handlers permit (cost reimbursable), complete a pre-employment TB skin test with negative results (YMCA will assist in this process) and proof of MMR vaccination (before the first day of employment).
  • Must be able to successfully complete required DCYF background and fingerprint checks before the first day of hire.
  • You are able to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on your first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
  • You have reliable transportation, the ability to assist at other childcare sites as needed and attend meetings at off-site locations.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act)

 

Wages: $18.03 to $20.22 per hour, (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

 

Hours: Part-Time, Monday – Friday

 

Shift: Monday-Friday Split Shift 6:00-10:00am; 2:30-6:30pm (times vary depending on district)

All Day Out and Day Camp Schedules – [between the hours of 6:00am-6:30pm]

Year-round position

 

Location: Peninsula School District (Discovery Elementary), Gig Harbor, WA
