Internship Position: Assistant Artist Manager
Company: OutPastMidnight, LLC
Location: Chicago, IL (Remote/Hybrid)
Compensation: Paid event opportunities + commission-based compensation for qualifying artist bookings.

About OutPastMidnight, LLC:

OutPastMidnight is a Chicago-based creative collective and production company dedicated to amplifying Black and Brown voices through music, art, and community. We manage artists, produce live events, and create opportunities for emerging talent while providing services across music, media, design, and live production. Rooted in community, creativity, culture, and collaboration, OPM is committed to creating meaningful experiences and expanding access to the arts.

Position Overview:

OutPastMidnight, LLC is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and proactive Assistant Artist Manager to work closely with our management team and support the day-to-day development and operations of our artists. This role is designed for someone who wants hands-on experience in artist management and is ready to take initiative, solve problems, and help move projects forward.

The Assistant Artist Manager will serve as an extension of our management team, essentially acting as a second set of eyes and hands across artist projects, bookings, communications, events, releases, and day-to-day operations. You will work directly with management and artists to coordinate opportunities, maintain relationships, track deadlines, assist with planning and logistics, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role in a growing independent music company. The ideal candidate is someone who is resourceful, dependable, comfortable communicating with industry professionals, and able to recognize what needs to be done without always being asked. As you grow into the role, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of projects and develop the skills needed to pursue a career in artist management, booking, and music business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and execution of album releases, single releases, and promotional campaigns, including timelines, deliverables, and rollout strategies.
  • Help coordinate album rollout assets, including cover art, photos, music videos, visualizers, EPKs, press materials, social content, and promotional graphics.
  • Maintain and update album and release timelines, tracking deadlines for music delivery, distribution, marketing, content, and promotional opportunities.
  • Assist with playlist, press, blog, radio, and media outreach surrounding new releases.
  • Research and identify opportunities for performances, festivals, opening slots, interviews, partnerships, sync opportunities, and other career building opportunities.
  • Assist with booking and advancing live performances, including communicating with venues, promoters, bookers, and other industry contacts.
  • Help manage artist calendars, including recording sessions, rehearsals, performances, meetings, press, content days, and travel.
  • Assist with show advancing, including settlement information, schedules, guest lists, hospitality, production needs, and other event details.
  • Draft and organize emails, booking inquiries, follow-ups, proposals, and other artist communications.
  • Help coordinate release shows, listening parties, pop-ups, and other artist activations.
  • Monitor artist goals, upcoming opportunities, and outstanding tasks, proactively communicating what needs attention.
  • Attend select shows, meetings, recording sessions, and industry events as needed.
  • Contribute ideas to artist branding, career development, audience growth, and long-term strategy.
  • Support management with general administrative and operational tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in artist management, music business, and live entertainment.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and professional email etiquette.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with management and creative teams.
  • Strong follow-through—you complete tasks, follow up, and keep projects moving.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar) or similar organizational tools.
  • Basic understanding of music releases, distribution, live booking, artist promotion, and/or the music industry.
  • Experience with project management, event coordination, social media, marketing, or music industry work is a plus.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other creative software is a plus.
  • Previous artist management experience is not required; we're looking for someone who is eager to learn, take ownership, and grow within the role.

Internship Logistics:

  • Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid; required to attend all events, weekly in-person meetings/work sessions).
  • Hours: 6–10 hours per week, depending on the event schedule.
  • Duration: Open-ended internship, based on your availability and interest in the position.
  • Compensation: Paid event opportunities + commission-based compensation for qualifying artist bookings.
