The Office of Information Technology’s Student Workforce Development initiative supports students in gaining real-world skills and preparing for careers after graduation. The Tech Peer Career Coach helps fellow students explore careers in technology, strengthen their job search skills, and better understand pathways into the tech industry.

We are looking for students who are interested in technology careers and enjoy helping their peers succeed. Ideal candidates are approachable, reliable, comfortable communicating with others, and interested in developing their own career coaching, leadership, research, and presentation skills.

Potential duties may include:

  • Meeting one-on-one with students to discuss technology career paths, resumes, job searches, internship experiences, and other career-related topics
  • Providing peer-level resume and cover letter feedback to help students strengthen the organization, formatting, clarity, and presentation of their application materials
  • Researching technology careers, roles, skills, certifications, employers, and career pathways
  • Creating guides, videos, presentations, and other resources that help students explore and prepare for careers in technology
  • Developing and facilitating workshops on topics such as tech resumes, interview preparation, networking, LinkedIn, AI, and finding internships or entry-level positions
  • Conducting outreach to increase student awareness of career resources, services, and opportunities
  • Helping students identify and connect with Career Services and other university resources when additional or specialized support would be beneficial
  • Helping students translate their academic, employment, and project experiences into career-ready skills
  • Supporting career-focused events and other Student Workforce Development initiatives

Work schedules are flexible, and students will receive training and support to develop their peer career coaching skills. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 units.

We are currently accepting applications from individuals available to work approximately 10 hours per week between the hours of 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Remote, after hours are preferred and encouraged.

Junior and senior students are preferred, although other students with relevant experience or a strong interest in technology careers are encouraged to apply. Priority consideration will be given to students who apply by September 4th.
