Multimedia Journalist

Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) / Fill-in Anchor

Are you a storyteller who lives for landing the interview or getting the scoop? Do you thrive on the rush of a breaking story and the satisfaction of seeing your work spark a conversation across every screen in town? We’re looking for an entry-level Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join our team at KOLN, 10/11 News - the #1 station in Lincoln. Our perfect candidate is someone who isn’t just looking for a job, but a place to grow, innovate, and become a part of our newsroom family. If you’ve got the college experience and the hunger to do impactful journalism that matters, we want to meet you.

What You'll Do

  • Own the story: From the idea to the final edit, you’ll pitch, shoot, write, and edit compelling stories that resonate with our local community.
  • Lead on digital: You won’t just wait for the 6 PM news; you’ll be the first to break stories on our digital, livestream, and social platforms, engaging our audience where they live.
  • Master breaking news: When news breaks, you’re on it. You’ll deliver live updates with urgency, accuracy, and a calm head under pressure.
  • Craft impactful journalism: You’ll dig deeper than the surface, finding the "why" behind the "what" and telling stories that make a difference in Lincoln.
  • Be a newsroom citizen: You’ll collaborate with producers, anchors, and digital editors, contributing to a culture of kindness, creativity, and mutual support.
  • Innovate across platforms: Whether it’s a vertical video for social or a deep-dive livestream, you’ll experiment with new ways to reach our audience.
  • Lead the desk: Anchor newscasts from the iconic Ken Siemek studio on a fill-in basis. Assist producers in stacking and writing those shows.

What You Bring

  • College-level experience: You’ve spent your time in the trenches of a campus newsroom or internship and are ready to take the next big step.
  • A digital-first mindset: You understand that news happens 24/7 and are comfortable creating content for social media and streaming as much as for broadcast.
  • Killer storytelling skills: You know how to find the heart of a story and tell it in a way that’s visual, emotional, and memorable.
  • Strong news judgment: You know what’s important to our viewers and can make smart decisions under deadline pressure.
  • Tech savvy: You’re comfortable with a camera, a laptop, and an editing suite (and you’re not afraid to troubleshoot on the fly or know when to call for help).
  • Urgency and empathy: You move fast, but you never lose sight of the people behind the stories you’re telling.
  • A team-player attitude: You’re the person who steps up to help a colleague and thrives in a collaborative, high-energy environment.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Culture first: We believe that a great newsroom starts with great people. You’ll find a supportive, inclusive environment where your voice is heard.
  • Innovation at our core: We’re not stuck in the past. We’re constantly evolving and want you to help us define the future of local media.
  • Real community impact: In Lincoln, your work matters. You’ll see the direct results of your reporting in the lives of your neighbors.
  • Growth opportunities: We’re a mid-level market that acts like a big one. You’ll get the mentorship and experience you need to level up your career.

Ready to make your mark in Lincoln? Let’s create something amazing together.\
