COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR (Commission Based)

Independent Contractor / Consulting Position

Position Type: Independent Contractor / Consulting Position

Work Schedule: Flexible, project-based schedule; availability may shift for meetings, events, and school visits.

Compensation: $200 per qualifying signed partnership contract or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), plus an additional $200 after implementation.

Payment Terms: The first $200 is paid after the agreement is fully signed and approved; the additional $200 is paid after H.U.G. verifies implementation.

Mileage: Approved business mileage will be reimbursed separately.

ABOUT HELP US GROW FOUNDATION

The Help Us Grow (H.U.G.) Reading Program improves children's literacy through personalized virtual tutoring, literacy activities, mentorship, and community engagement. H.U.G. helps students strengthen reading skills, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Community Engagement Coordinator represents H.U.G. in the community, identifies prospective organizations, conducts outreach, visits schools, presents H.U.G. programs, and supports partnership agreements or MOUs through completion. This role is ideal for a community leader, educator, outreach professional, or nonprofit professional passionate about literacy and youth development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Outreach and Events

• Represent H.U.G. professionally and introduce its mission and programs to schools, universities, businesses, nonprofits, and community groups.

• Conduct outreach by phone, email, networking, meetings, school visits, and approved promotional activities.

• Attend or support community events, school functions, volunteer fairs, job fairs, conferences, and tabling opportunities.

School Visits and Presentations

• Meet with school administrators, educators, counselors, university representatives, and other authorized decision-makers.

• Present H.U.G. literacy programs and explain how they can support students, educators, families, and school communities.

• Coordinate informational meetings and follow up with interested representatives during the partnership-development process.

Partnership Development and MOUs

• Identify qualified prospective organizations and schedule meetings with authorized decision-makers.

• Present H.U.G.'s mission, programs, volunteer opportunities, and partnership expectations.

• Guide prospective partners through the agreement or MOU process and follow up until the opportunity is signed, declined, or formally closed.

• Submit completed agreements and required documentation to H.U.G. leadership; do not commit or legally bind H.U.G. without written authorization.

REPORTING AND COMMUNICATION

• Provide regular updates on outreach, school visits, events, meetings, pending agreements, and completed MOUs.

• Maintain accurate records and use H.U.G.-approved forms, presentations, systems, email templates, and promotional materials.

• Respond to H.U.G. leadership and prospective organizations promptly and professionally.

COMPENSATION AND PAYMENT TERMS

The coordinator will receive $200 for each qualifying signed partnership contract or MOU. This initial payment requires all authorized signatures, H.U.G. approval, supporting documentation, and verification that the agreement qualifies.

An additional $200 will be paid after H.U.G. verifies that the approved partnership has been implemented.

Approved business mileage will be reimbursed separately upon submission of the required mileage documentation.

Meetings, introductions, draft agreements, unsigned documents, and expressions of interest do not independently qualify for payment.

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR STATUS

• Manage an independent work schedule and methods, subject to approved meetings, events, deadlines, and deliverables.

• Be responsible for applicable taxes, transportation, technology, and equipment; employee benefits are not provided.

• Obtain approval before making financial, programmatic, contractual, event, sponsorship, or expense commitments for H.U.G.

• Follow H.U.G. confidentiality, professional-conduct, communication, and brand-representation requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong professional communication, presentation, organization, and follow-up skills.

• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple prospective opportunities.

• Comfort representing H.U.G. at meetings, school visits, events, and public presentations.

• Flexible availability and basic proficiency with email, Zoom, shared documents, and online collaboration tools.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field is preferred but not required. Preferred experience includes education, nonprofit work, community engagement, outreach, customer support or customer service, volunteer management, events, program coordination, or developing partnership agreements and MOUs. Familiarity with literacy, educational services, or youth development is also preferred.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Performance will be evaluated based on professional representation, quality and consistency of outreach, qualified contacts developed, meetings completed, fully executed agreements or MOUs, timely follow-up during the development process, accurate records, responsiveness, and compliance with H.U.G. policies.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND TRAVEL

The contractor must protect confidential information involving H.U.G., its students, families, volunteers, donors, prospective organizations, programs, operations, finances, and internal materials.

Local travel may be required for school visits, meetings, events, conferences, presentations, and outreach. Approved business mileage will be reimbursed separately. Other reimbursable expenses require advance written approval.
