Intern - Transmission Operations Planning Engineer

LOCATION: Kansas City, MO
PAY RANGE: $23.00 - $28.00 / hour 

Intern Position for Full Time Summer 2027

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Intern Description:
The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Transmission Operations Planning manager and team on a variety of technical and nontechnical assignments related to Evergy’s electric transmission system. This position will provide a good opportunity for an engineering  student to become familiar with Evergy's design and engineering practices, technical analysis, and field operations related to the transmission system with a focus on operational planning and outage coordination.

Job tasks include but not limited to:
• Modeling powerflow data using PSS/E and EMS State Estimator software
• Performing transmission planning and outage coordination studies
• Analyzing real-time operating conditions 
• Communicating and collaborating with project stakeholders
• Performing field visits to understand system design and functionality
• Assisting with Process Improvements

Education and Experience Requirements:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university with an ABET-accredited Electrical engineering program.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
• Excellent communication, public relations, teamwork, and technical skills.
• Strong math, business/technical writing, and technical reading skills.
• Experience in the use of spreadsheets, word processing, and applicable engineering software.
• Skills are necessary in planning, organizing, oral and written communication, prioritizing and team building.
• Ability to quickly learn and become proficient in use of new computer software and programs.

Working Conditions:
Office conditions with continuous attention to performing work of high quality and accuracy in a safe manner. Occasional field inspections/observations will involve work outdoors within driving distance of work location.
