AI & Business Systems Analyst Intern
AI & Business Systems Analyst Intern
Farmers Insurance District 44 | Lisa Vermette Agency Inc.
Westlake Village, CA (Hybrid) · 12–20 hours/week · Fall 2026, with opportunity to extend
Paid internship — academic credit available
The short version
District 44 supports roughly 20 independent Farmers Insurance agency owners across LA Metro and the Westside — recruiting, coaching, and helping them build businesses that last. We're a top-performing district, and we're rebuilding our operation to run leaner, sharper, and at a higher level. We need someone to build it with us.
This is not a coffee-and-filing internship. You'll build the tools that let us support and coach business owners at a higher level — work that shows up in how real companies get run.
What you'll actually do
- Build the systems that restructure how a top district operates — production trackers, commission and compensation calculators, goal-setting models, agency P&L templates, and scorecard dashboards designed to make the whole operation more efficient and more accountable
- Design and deploy AI workflows (Claude, ChatGPT, automation tools) for reporting, data cleanup, content drafting, and recurring analysis
- Own tech setup and troubleshooting for the district office — software, integrations, file architecture, documentation
- Coach agency owners on integrating these tools into their own businesses — this is where the work leaves the spreadsheet and changes how someone runs their company
- Communicate directly with Farmers corporate representatives, agency owners, and their staff — gathering requirements, walking people through new systems, following up
- Document what you build and train others on it, so the work outlives the internship
What we're looking for
- Advanced Excel. Nested formulas, XLOOKUP or INDEX-MATCH, pivot tables, data validation, conditional formatting. Power Query, macros, or VBA are a real plus.
- Genuine AI fluency. You know how to prompt well, how to check the output, and when AI is the wrong tool.
- People skills that hold up. You can build rapport with a 25-year agency veteran and a corporate executive in the same afternoon.
- Self-direction. We'll give you the problem and the context. You come back with options.
- Clear writing and an instinct to document as you go.
- Coursework or experience in business, finance, data analytics, information systems, or similar — though we care more about what you've built than what you've studied.
What you get out of it
- Direct mentorship from a business owner with 25+ years across insurance and restaurant operations — someone who has built, bought, run, and scaled companies
- A strategic mindset and a real read on the market: how to see where an industry is heading and position ahead of it
- A front-row seat to how independent small business owners actually run and grow
- A portfolio of systems in live use across a 20-agency district
- A real professional network inside Farmers Insurance
- Scheduling that flexes around your classes

Include a short note — a few sentences is fine — about something you've built. A spreadsheet, an automation, a workflow, a side project. Tell us what it did and what you'd do differently now.
