Overview:

This internship is for a project which is about our founder of ULimo, John Snee, and his potential mayoral candidacy for the city of New York.

The Urban & Local Government Internship [Project: John Snee NYC Mayoral Candidacy] provides students with the opportunity to gain practical experience related to cities, local government, economic development, housing, transportation, public services, and urban policy. Interns will support research and project activities while gaining exposure to the governmental and community issues affecting New York City.

This internship is designed for students interested in political science, urban government, local government, public policy, economic development, and public service. Interns will have opportunities to apply concepts from their coursework to a real-world political project while developing research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Research urban and local government issues relevant to New York City and its residents.

Research topics involving housing, transportation, economic development, infrastructure, and public services.

Examine New York City government agencies, programs, responsibilities, and administrative structures.

Monitor and summarize local government and urban policy developments.

Research community concerns and challenges affecting neighborhoods across New York City.

Review publicly available government reports, city data, policy documents, planning materials, and other research.

Assist with preparing research summaries, briefing materials, reports, and other project documents.

Research how local government policies and programs affect residents, businesses, and communities.

Help organize information related to urban development, public services, local policy, and community priorities.

Collaborate with project leadership and other interns on urban policy and local government-related initiatives.

Qualifications:

Currently pursuing or recently completed coursework or a degree in Political Science or a closely related field.

Interest in cities, local government, urban policy, public service, and community issues.

Strong research, analytical, written communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to evaluate information from multiple sources and summarize findings clearly.

Familiarity with local government, urban policy, housing, transportation, or economic development is a plus.

Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, research databases, or similar tools is a plus.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively on research and project assignments.

Interest in New York City government and urban issues is a plus.
