Multimedia Resources Center Assistant

Access & Operations is responsible for the opening, closing, and security of our three buildings on the main campus. We perform general maintenance and some custodial services. We coordinate with campus entities and outside contractors, manage space projects, and provide support for library events. In addition, we are responsible for stacks management, reserves, printing services, equipment circulation, and the circulation desks. We facilitate access to the educational and research resources needed by our users through our Interlibrary Loan and Scanning services and provide multimedia expertise, services, and content at the Multimedia Resources Center (MRC). We take pride in being the faces of the libraries for people who visit in person to use our spaces and services and strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

Performs routine tasks at the Multimedia Resources Center (MRC) service desk.

Involves filing, shelving, discharging, renewing, searching, audiovisual and computing equipment, software, reserve material, and retrieving library materials.

Operates audio, visual and computing equipment, performs light typing, and basic record keeping.

Gives basic assistance with UC Library Search (R) CD-ROMs/DVD-ROMs, and other MRC licensed resources.

Manages basic problems with printing.

May have added duties and special projects related to the Center.

Answer phones, MRC emails, and provide basic services.

May require some holidays, evening and weekend hours.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Registered as a full time undergraduate at UC Irvine.

Knows basics of typing, filing, and computer equipment.

Has basic knowledge of library practices and MRC Services.

Has excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Must be familiar with office equipment.

Operates audio-visual equipment.

Involves library assignments including filing, shelving, discharging, renewing, searching and/or retrieving books and periodicals.

Involves independent decision making.

Must be familiar with personal computer-based software programs.

Requires frequent exercise of judgement.

Performs a variety of complex assignments requiring extensive training and/or experience.

Provides computer consulting services.

Hours will be between 9AM and 7PM, dependent upon the day scheduled. Must be able to work mornings, nights and/or weekends.
