Piano Teacher

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must possess a minimum of a MFA in piano performance or pedagogy, or currently working towards their Masters. Secondary experience in vocal technique is encouraged but not essential. Good attitude and willingness to learn are as important, if not more important, as length of time teaching. Teaching experience is a plus, but a positive attitude and remaining teachable are highly valued. Ability to collaborate with other instructors is a must.
 

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The primary focus of this role is teaching Piano to a variety of levels, but primarily working with beginning students in both private and group settings. The candidate should be able to use a variety of different teaching methods and techniques to inspire beginning students and establish a solid foundation in both musicality and theory.

Communication skills: Ability to express instructions clearly, use age-appropriate language, and actively listen to their responses and questions
 

Adaptability: Adjust teaching methods to accommodate different learning preferences.
 

Classroom management: Maintain a structured and organized classroom environment. Establishing clear expectations, consistent routines, and managing behavior effectively is key to a good experience for the students.
 

Knowledge of child development: At minimum, a basic understanding of the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development of young students.
 

Passion and Attitude: Demonstrating a genuine love for music and a positive attitude will inspire and motivate young students.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instruction and demonstration: Teach age and skill level appropriate music theory and piano methodology using different methodology. Ability to demonstrate technique. 

Music selection: Choose appropriate music in both skill and content.
 

Communication with parents: Regularly communicate with parents or guardians to share progress, provide updates, and address any concerns or questions they may have.
 

Evaluation and assessments: Demonstrate the students progress through group master classes, recitals, and providing constructive evaluation for continued growth and development.
 

SCHEDULE AND AVAILABILITY
Most classes for this age group are in the afternoon (generally between 3-9 ) during the week.
 

COMPENSATION
Hourly rate begins at $20 classes according to teaching experience and training. Project agreements for specific projects outside the classroom, ie: if we contract you to accompany a 3-6th grade musical, that will be a separate Project Agreement. Private teaching instruction rate begins at a 50% split teacher to studio ratio, determined by experience, degrees, including rate increase with time at said “company”.
