Freelance In-Person Interpreters Needed in Lancaster, PA | Mandarin, Oromo, Haitian Creole, Pashto & Dari

 

Your Language Connection (YLC) is seeking reliable bilingual individuals based in or near Lancaster, Pennsylvania to join our growing network of freelance interpreters / independent contractors.

We currently have a strong need for interpreters who speak:

  • Mandarin
  • Oromo
  • Haitian Creole
  • Pashto
  • Dari

Assignments are primarily in person in Lancaster and surrounding areas, with occasional virtual opportunities depending on client needs.

IMPORTANT LOCATION REQUIREMENT: This position is only open to applicants who currently live in Central Pennsylvania and are available for regular in-person assignments in Lancaster and the surrounding areas. Please do not apply if you live outside Central Pennsylvania. Remote-only applicants will not be considered.

Compensation & Schedule

Pay: $30–$50 per hour, depending on language, experience, qualifications, and assignment type

Schedule: Flexible and assignment-based

Employment Type: Independent Contractor / Freelance

There is no fixed weekly schedule. Interpreters provide their availability and can accept assignments that work with their schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate interpretation between English and your target language
  • Interpret during appointments, meetings, evaluations, and other client services
  • Communicate information accurately and impartially
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Be punctual and professional for accepted assignments
  • Follow YLC procedures and client-specific requirements
  • Communicate promptly with the YLC team regarding availability and assignments

Minimum Requirements

  • Based in or able to reliably travel to Lancaster, PA and surrounding areas
  • Fluent in English and at least one of our priority languages
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to accurately communicate information between two languages
  • Reliable, professional, and punctual
  • Comfortable attending in-person assignments
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and remain impartial
  • Reliable transportation or the ability to travel to accepted assignments
  • Previous interpreting experience is preferred but not required for all opportunities
