Part-Time Afterschool Tutor – Elementary and Middle School

Schedule: Monday-Thursday between 3:00 pm-8:00 pm
Pay: $25–$35 per hour, based on education and experience

About the Organization

C E Mitchell Services Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and reach their full potential. Our afterschool program provides students in grades K–8 with small-group academic support in a safe, encouraging, and engaging environment.

Position Summary

We are seeking dependable, enthusiastic, and student-centered afterschool tutors to provide academic support in reading, English language arts, and mathematics. This is an excellent opportunity for college students, education majors, aspiring teachers, recent graduates, and individuals interested in working with children and gaining hands-on instructional experience.

Tutors will work with individual students and small groups, help students complete assignments, reinforce foundational skills, and provide encouragement that promotes academic confidence and independence.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide individual and small-group tutoring to students in grades K–8.

Assist students with reading, writing, mathematics, homework, and study skills.

Explain concepts using clear, age-appropriate language and examples.

Follow lesson plans, learning activities, and instructional materials provided by the program.

Adjust instruction based on students’ academic needs and learning styles.

Help students develop organization, time-management, and problem-solving skills.

Maintain a positive, patient, structured, and encouraging learning environment.

Monitor student participation and document attendance and academic progress.

Communicate student concerns and accomplishments to the site coordinator.

Supervise students and follow all program safety, confidentiality, and behavior-management procedures.

Arrive on time and maintain a dependable weekly schedule.

Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and other reasonable program duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in college or have completed some college coursework.

Strong reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively with elementary and middle school students.

Patient, dependable, professional, and enthusiastic about helping young people.

Able to commit to a consistent afterschool schedule.

Reliable transportation to the Lithia Springs program location.

Willingness to complete required background screening before beginning work.

Preferred Qualifications

Major or coursework in education, counseling, psychology, social work, mathematics, English, child development, or a related field.

Previous experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, babysitting, or working in an afterschool or youth program.

Experience supporting students with IEPs, 504 Plans, ADHD, dyslexia, or other learning differences.

Familiarity with Georgia academic standards.

CPR/First Aid certification is helpful but not required.
