Job description:
The Scholarly Resources student employee will gain experience in cataloging monographic materials, maintaining the quality of the library’s database, and physically processing and inspecting all materials for the University Libraries Collections which includes Round Rock Campus and Archives & Research Center.
This position enhances employees reading, editing, computer knowledge, interpersonal communication, analytic, and retention skills while completing their job duties.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Creating and editing metadata in online systems
- Labeling, RFID tagging, & barcoding of all library materials in many formats
- Physically process library materials including rehousing, labeling and revision
- Cataloging items, including searching materials online in OCLC and FOLIO
- Entering and transferring data into online systems
- Checking in incoming materials (counted, status updates, filed in appropriate locations)
- Lifting and carrying materials, and pushing book trucks **
- Book repairs
- Various clerical duties as assigned
** It is employee’s responsibility to never lift beyond their own safe lifting limit. If an item is too heavy to lift, push or pull and/or carry, the employee must reduce the weight into light, smaller, more manageable components, or ask for assistance from another co-worker or supervisor.
Specifics:
Number of hours per week: Our unit operates Monday-Friday, from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Student employees generally work up to 20 hrs. per week (pending on class schedule).
Rate of Pay: $10.00 hourly.
