MHI Compensation: This position is eligible for the MHI $1000 Scholarship. Students who receive an offer for this position will be required to enroll in the Mellon Humanities Internship course to receive the $1000 scholarship disbursement. As referenced in the Student Interest Form that you filled out to sign up for participation in MHI, this scholarship can impact, or be impacted by, other financial aid you receive. 

If an internship requires out of pocket costs, students may apply for reimbursement for expenses including background checks, qualifying travel, or equipment. All applications will be reviewed and processed for eligibility. Please contact your departments internship coordinator for more details.

The $1000 scholarship offered for this position is intended to provide financial assistance for the pursuit of your education; it is not compensation for the performance of any services and does not create an employment relationship between the you and the Site.

This position is an experiential learning opportunity and receipt of the scholarship is tied to an academic course (IDS 3947). If you do not complete your registration for the course in a timely manner, your internship offer may be withdrawn, and your department’s Internship Coordinator may notify the host organization that the position has reopened.

Job Description:                                                                                                      

Looking for an intern to record by phone or in person interview 15 minute audio interviews for Lunchtime Conversations working with RadioStPete news director on assignments for our online, on-air magazine that airs during Lunchtime Conversations.

We can develop a beat that you like (marine science, health and medical, whatever your passion) as well for you to express your passion on RSP and tell great stories.

--This includes recording audio at events, museum openings or audio interviews by phone with authors, musicians and others.

--Provide short blog with links to go with the audio.

-- Intern should have good people skills, like to write and research and be willing to learn how to interview.

Journalism experience not necessary; we'll train you! --Here is an example of a previous intern's spring stories. 

Experience with media or scheduling software is helpful but not required—training will be provided.

• Resident of Pinellas County preferred. Much of the work can be done remotely but there is a training/professional development component that will require the intern to come to the studio.
• Strong communication and people skills
• Comfortable speaking with and approaching new people
• Good writing and basic research skills
• Interest in local news, arts, culture, science, health, music, or community stories
• Willingness to learn basic interviewing and audio-recording techniques
• Comfortable conducting a 15-minute phone or in-person interview
• Able to use a smartphone or basic audio-recording equipment
• Able to write a short blog post to accompany an interview, including links and relevant information
• Reliable and able to meet agreed-upon deadlines
• Professional, curious, and respectful when interacting with interview subjects
• Ability to work independently while taking assignments and guidance from the News Director
• Journalism or broadcasting experience is not required. Radio St. Pete will provide training and guidance on interviewing, recording, story development, and preparing content for broadcast and online publication.
