Assistant Broadcast Club Advisor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Broadcasting Club Advisor will serve as a mentor, advisor, and technical resource for a student-led video broadcasting club. The club will produce Townie News Network, featuring podcasts, interviews, school and community stories, and live-streamed sporting events with student commentary.

The Assistant Broadcast Advisor will help students develop skills in video production, broadcasting, journalism, research, podcasting, interviewing, live streaming, and media presentation while promoting leadership, creativity, teamwork, responsibility, and professionalism.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a positive role model, mentor, and resource for student club members.
  • Encourage students to take ownership of their work, decisions, and responsibilities
  • Guide students while allowing them the freedom to plan and coordinate their own activities and programming.
  • Advise students in the development and production of Townie TV programming.
  • Support student podcasts, interviews, news/features, and other video content.
  • Assist with live-streaming high school sporting events and student commentary
  • Provide technical guidance with cameras, microphones, lighting, video editing, streaming, and other media equipment.
  • Attend regular club meetings and activities.
  • Be familiar with the club's purpose, goals, activities, history, and procedures.
  • Assist students in establishing realistic goals, planning events, and solving problems.
  • Attend special events, productions, and athletic broadcasts when necessary, including activities outside regular club hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have experience or knowledge in video production, broadcasting, podcasting, journalism, digital media, live streaming, or a related field. Experience working with high school students and mentoring youth is preferred.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of video, audio, or broadcasting technology
  • Ability to teach technical skills in an engaging manner
  • Professional judgment regarding student-produced media and content

OVERALL GOAL

The Assistant Broadcasting Club Advisor will help students develop and operate Townie News Network  as a professional, student-driven media platform that highlights the accomplishments, voices, activities, and stories of the East Providence High School community while providing students with meaningful real-world media, leadership, and career-development experience.
