Laudato si Intern/OA University Ministry Back

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Laudato si Intern:

  • Support ecological programming in the Ministry office and beyond, echoing the 2015 document to embody and implement an “integral ecology” at UDM.
  • Alongside team of student leaders from multiple departments, lead a coordinated effort to implement sustainability projects, service days, education, and advocacy on the McNichols campus.
  • The primary role of the ecological intern will be to help maintain the TENN garden with watering, planting, weeding, and harvesting (training provided), providing occasional service or educational days for students to join.
  • Miscellaneous other projects including supporting recycling and composting programs on campus, implementing educational campaigns, or doing research on UDM’s sustainability strengths and areas for growth.

General Office Duties:

  • Greet and welcome guests/visitors to the office offering basic hospitality (coffee, tea, cocoa etc.)
  • Professionally respond to ministry emails and phone calls. Creating and posting marketing flyers for all events and programs.
  • Regularly updating ministry chalkboards and digital monitors. Daily cleaning of the University Ministry lobby and all University Ministry spaces (chapels, meeting rooms etc.).
  • Organizing the office storage spaces. Supporting tabling efforts for the office.
  • Research and supporting preparations for all University Ministry programs and events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience or willingness to learn Canva, Microsoft Word/Teams/Calendar.
  • Experience or willingness to get your hands dirty through regular garden maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications (if any):

  • Experience with planting, maintaining vegetables and flowers, and harvesting.
  • Has worked with Canva in designing flyers.

Physical Requirements (if any):

  • Ability to lift 40lb, bend over for long periods, walk on uneven ground, or other gardening-related activity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (if any):

  • Welcoming and comfortable working with others of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organization skills, both organizing personal time and physical spaces.
  • Knowledge of Laudato si precepts or a personal commitment to an ecological ethic.

Anticipated Schedule:

  • 8-10 hours/wk (M-F 9:30-5pm) with flexible time for projects.
