Group Leader Elementary or Middle School-Aged Children (Part-Time)

About Fresh Youth Initiatives (FYI):   FYI is a dynamic community-based organization that partners with young people to develop their leadership and build their legacy. Founded in 1993, FYI supports the immigrant and first-generation youth of Washington Heights and Inwood to grow as healthy, successful, lifelong learners. FYI operates programs at four sites in Washington Heights and Inwood where 1,300 children in grades Pre-K to 12 participate in afterschool, weekend, and summer programs annually. Using a positive youth development model, FYI provides holistic, culturally responsive programming, including educational, social-emotional, service-learning, college and career access, and mental health services to youth as well as mental health and social services support to their families through an anti-oppression lens. With an annual budget of $4.3M and 70 staff members, FYI is continuing its growth trajectory to meet the needs of youth and families in the community. JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a part-time position, September through June, 2:00-6:00pm.  Group leaders work in either our elementary or middle school after-school programs. We are seeking candidates who are interested in careers in education, social work, or related fields, who are enthusiastic and caring, and who will appreciate extensive staff professional development and support. Group leaders help to sustain a positive, caring organizational culture

 

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or college students in relevant fields of study
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Spanish/English bilingual, a plus
  • Experience planning and facilitating groups with children or teens
  • At least one year of experience working with elementary or middle school-aged children.
