Cannon Beach Police Department is currently hiring for Police Officer.

All candidates must complete the ORPAT and Frontline National tests for this position. ORPAT is scheduled separately from the NTN home page. You must schedule both a Frontline National and ORPAT test for this position. Testing for both Frontline National and ORPAT is available at the Brooklake campus of Chemeketa Community College.

Salary Information:  $31.78 to $39.07 Hourly

Department Overview:  The City of Cannon Beach is located on the North Oregon Coast and is consistently ranked one of the most beautiful places in the world. The Cannon Beach Police Department consists of eight (8) sworn members and two administrative/support members. The department provides service seven days per week on a 24-hour basis. In addition to responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, the department provides patrol and investigative services. We work closely with our community partners to provide law enforcement services in a diverse environment of ocean and northern rain forests. 

Area Information:  Cannon Beach is in Clatsop County Oregon. Our full-time population is less than 1700 full time residents. During the summer months there can be over 20 thousand visitors in Cannon Beach. 

Job Requirements

Age : At least 21 years of age

US Citizen : Must be a U.S. citizen within 18 months of hire

High School Grad/GED : High School Graduation or GED Certification.

Valid OREGON State Driver's License : Valid Oregon Driver License and a favorable driving record

Ability to Read/Speak English : Yes

Vision : Must successfully pass the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) medical examination that includes vision.

College : No

Academy Certification : Basic DPSST Certificate following completion of training, within 18 months of employment

Prior Experience : No

Necessary Certifications : Basic DPSST Certificate following completion of training, within 18 months of employment

·        Intoxilizer and CPR Certification within 12 months of employment

·        Valid Oregon Driver License and a favorable driving record

·        Must be a U.S. citizen within 18 months of hire

·        At least 21 years of age

·        No felony convictions or convictions of domestic assault misdemeanor

·        Resident within a 45 minute drive of Cannon Beach city limits

·        Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen

·        Must successfully pass the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) medical examination that includes vision and hearing tests and a psychological examination

·        Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation including criminal history check

·        Must be able to testify in a court of law

·        Additional assignments may require additional specialized training as defined by the Cannon Beach Police Department

Hiring Process : The recruitment process for the police officer position is approximately 2 months. Applicants must pass each step in order to continue in the process. The process includes written (POST) and physical (ORPAT) testing, an oral board interview, a Chief’s interview, background investigation, and medical and psychological exams.

Drug Use Disqualifiers:

·        Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.

·        No Marijuana use within the last 6 months.

·        No illegal drug use within the past 3 years.

LATERAL POLICE OFFICER INCENTIVES : The Chief of Police has the discretion to start lateral officers at a higher pay step consistent with years of experience. Lateral officers may be credited with up-front sick leave hours and vacation hours. Additionally, lateral officers may serve a shorter probationary period, at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

·        Ability to work on several investigations, perform patrol functions, traffic enforcement, community service, special assignments, and training as required

·        Ability to walk, run, jump, stand, lift, sit, restrain combative individuals, and other physical requirements as determined by the Department of Public Safety and Training (DPSST)

·        Ability to meet State Standards in the use of vehicles, firearms, and other weapons and equipment in stressful, emergency conditions

·        Ability to learn to use a computer to perform the essential functions of the position in a timely manner
