Duration: 4 Months, 5 Hours a Week (Exceptions for Midterms and Finals)
Compensation: Unpaid / Academic Credit Available
What You’ll Be Doing:
As the 50-State Compliance Manager, you will oversee the planning, coordination, and management of compliance efforts related to regulations in each state that may impact our nonprofit. It is your responsibility to ensure regulatory oversight is accurate and organized. You will be responsible for a team of associates, and will be their primary point of contact for assignments, guidance, questions, and connection to overall leadership. A manager must be willing to dedicate at least 5 hours per week and attend and host any necessary meetings. This is an unpaid internship role; academic credit is available for students who need or want it.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate the 50-state compliance team, including assigning tasks and managing compliance timelines
- Oversee monitoring of state regulatory requirements relevant to nonprofit operations
- Guide development and maintenance of compliance documentation, policies, and records
- Review compliance materials for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory alignment
- Collaborate with legal, policy, and leadership teams to align compliance efforts
- Support onboarding and training of state compliance team members
- Provide guidance, feedback, and support to compliance team members
Qualifications
- Political science, public policy, legal studies, and related majors strongly preferred
- Prior compliance or regulatory experience preferred but not required
- Familiarity or prior experience with legal, regulatory, and/or compliance research
- Prior leadership experience preferred but not required
- Communicative and willing to learn and lead
