CNC Operator

Position Summary

The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC machinery to produce precision parts that meet required specifications, quality standards, and production schedules. This role requires hands-on machining experience, strong attention to detail, the ability to read blueprints and work instructions, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines, including mills, lathes, machining centers, or related equipment, according to work orders, setup sheets, drawings, and production requirements.
• Load programs, install tooling, secure workpieces, and make basic machine adjustments to ensure accurate production.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and job instructions to verify dimensions, tolerances, materials, and machining requirements.
• Monitor machine operation during production runs and make adjustments to feeds, speeds, offsets, or tooling as needed within established procedures.
• Inspect finished and in-process parts using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, indicators, and other inspection equipment.
• Perform routine machine checks, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, coolant checks, and chip removal.
• Identify and report machine issues, tooling problems, nonconforming parts, safety concerns, or production delays to the appropriate supervisor or support team.
• Maintain accurate production records, inspection results, scrap reports, and other required documentation.
• Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, work instructions, and company policies.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with manufacturing and housekeeping standards. 
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, quality personnel, maintenance, engineering, and other production team members to meet output and quality goals.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical school, machining certificate, or related training preferred.
• 1-2 years of experience operating CNC equipment in a manufacturing or production environment preferred but entry level will be considered.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and basic GD&T callouts.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, thread gauges, and related inspection tools.
• Basic understanding of machining principles, tooling, offsets, feeds, speeds, materials, and part tolerances.
• Ability to perform basic shop math, including fractions, decimals, measurements, and conversions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Ideal Qualifications

• Experience with CNC mills, CNC lathes, multi-axis equipment, or vertical/horizontal machining centers.
• Familiarity with Fanuc, Mazak, or similar CNC controls.
• Experience making tool changes, adjusting offsets, and performing first-piece or in-process inspections.
