Lab Technician

Summary:

Assists and supports the analytical testing of pharmaceutical raw materials, intermediates, finished goods (APIs), stability samples, etc. by compiling and organizing testing kits for Scientists. The technician will compile materials after reviewing the approved analytical method to determine what is needed to perform the analysis. The role also includes preparing and accurately documenting mobile phases and solutions, maintaining laboratory stock, completing sample log-in paperwork, performing daily laboratory housekeeping and waste disposal, cleaning, drying and storing glassware, and performing daily OQ (Operational Qualification) of laboratory equipment such as analytical balances and KF (Karl Fischer) titrators as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Follow all Quality Assurance, Standard Operating Procedures, and Environmental Health & Safety requirements.
• Assist with maintaining/ordering of laboratory stock.
• Record/document all preparation activities.
• Actively engage and assist coworkers to become a valuable team member.
• Independently perform solution preparation calculations, verified by senior chemists.
• Accurately communicate and document experimental details and results.
• Perform all documentation work according to Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Independently organize work space for maximum efficiency.
• Perform work in a proactive manner to ensure the analyst has all materials/reagents to perform testing.
• Maintain work areas and laboratory spaces in a clean and compliant manner.
• Schedule kitting work and priorities to meet business needs.
• Compile testing materials including columns, volumetric glassware, labels, prepared mobile phases, sample diluents, filtration media, reference standards, and paperwork.
• Accurately record preparation of mobile phases and/or solutions in a laboratory notebook or approved testing worksheet/batch record.
• Maintain a designated laboratory area for quick and accurate preparation of kits.
• Complete sample log-in paperwork.
• Perform daily housekeeping of the laboratories, including waste disposal.
• Clean, dry, and store glassware.
• Perform daily OQ (Operational Qualification) of laboratory equipment such as analytical balances and KF (Karl Fischer) titrators as needed.
• Use safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, latex or similar gloves, safety apron, and organic respirator occasionally.

Required Skills:

• Bachelors Degree in chemistry or biology and Microbiology degree desired.
• Experience in a fine chemicals or pharmaceutical testing laboratory is desired.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
• Ability to independently perform solution preparation calculations.
• Ability to accurately communicate and document experimental details and results.
• Ability to perform documentation work according to Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Ability to organize work space for maximum efficiency.
• Ability to schedule kitting work and priorities to meet business needs.
• Ability to maintain work areas and laboratory spaces in a clean and compliant manner.
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch periodically.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds.
• Arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp.
• Visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
