This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
LOCATION: 3600 Denali Street
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Starting pay does not exceed the midpoint of the displayed pay range.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties
Under the supervision of the Library Director and Assistant Director, this position is responsible for the development and management of the physical and digital library collections for the Anchorage Public Library. This position oversees all activities related to collection development in order to maintain a cohesive system-wide, patron-focused, and dynamic library collection. Duties include, but are not limited to, managing the collection budget; developing and implementing collection development plans and goals; developing and enforcing collection related procedures and policies; hiring, supervising, evaluating, and disciplining multiple direct and indirect reports, which includes the Technical Services and Collection Maintenance supervisors; coordinating across divisions and with branch managers and system-wide Selector librarians to select, order, deselect, and weed materials; establishing and maintaining good working relationships with vendors and negotiating licensing agreements and pricing of goods and services; managing vendor contracts and preparing Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) purchasing documents as needed; overseeing division-related statistical data gathering and reporting; managing division records per MOA retention procedures; serving on the library leadership team; pursuing professional development to maintain expertise and sustaining an ongoing awareness of collection and technical service trends, general library activities, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited school and two (2) years of professional library experience, one (1) year of which is at the supervisory level with some experience in budget preparation.
