Outdoor Educator

Come teach outside in beautiful North County

We are seeking a passionate, playful, and nature-loving TK–2nd grade educator to join our innovative outdoor school community. This is an opportunity to reimagine what school can look like for young children—where a meadow can become a science lab, a trail can become a reading path, and a fallen log can inspire questions, stories, math, and discovery.

Our program draws on Expeditionary Learning (EL) principles and outdoor education philosophy, creating learning experiences that are rigorous, joyful, hands-on, and deeply connected to the natural world. Students spend their school days learning and exploring in local preserves and outdoor spaces, rain or shine.

What You’ll Do

• Lead a small group of TK  students through engaging, hands-on academic experiences outdoors.
• Integrate literacy, mathematics, science, and social-emotional learning through authentic experiences and student inquiry.
• Use Expeditionary Learning practices to foster curiosity, collaboration, perseverance, reflection, and meaningful work.
• Create learning experiences that connect children to their local environment and community.
• Encourage children to observe closely, ask questions, take healthy risks, solve problems, and develop confidence as learners.
• Build a warm, inclusive classroom community where every child feels known, valued, and capable.
• Embrace the opportunities—and occasional messes—that come with learning outdoors in all kinds of weather.
• Collaborate with fellow educators to design thoughtful, interdisciplinary learning experiences.

We’re Looking for Someone Who…

• Loves working with young children and believes they are capable, curious, and creative thinkers.
• Is energized by nature, exploration, and outdoor learning.
• Has experience teaching TK, kindergarten, elementary school, or early childhood education.
• TEaching Credential is a plus but previous experience is a must
• Brings creativity, flexibility, patience, and a strong sense of play to their teaching.
• Is comfortable teaching outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Values experiential, inquiry-based, and project-based learning.
• Enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to a close-knit school community.
• Is excited to continue growing professionally and learning alongside students.
• Confidence in Waters and Lagoons in addition to on the trails

Position: Outdoor Educator / Teacher, TK–2nd Grade
Schedule: 24-28 Hours per week  
Setting: Local preserves and outdoor learning environments
Teaching Model: Expeditionary Learning, experiential education, inquiry-based learning, and nature-based education
Weather: Outdoor learning takes place rain or shine
