Writing and Math Tutor

Do you have a positive, fun-loving personality? Can you see yourself spending a half hour with a six-year-old reading student, tackling fractions and multiplication facts with a fourth grader for 45 minutes, helping a high schooler with essay revisions and standardized test prep for an hour, then doing some algebra with a middle schooler? If so, we are looking for you!

We need eager and capable one-on-one tutors for school-age and high school students in multiple subject areas including writing, math, comprehension, and reading. These positions are in-person, but you may be asked to do virtual sessions, as well.

I am looking specifically for a tutor that can help older students with essay writing and English, including conventions of grammar, style, and structure, but can also tutor younger students in a variety of subjects including phonics, comprehension, and math (up to Algebra or beyond, if possible!). You must be willing to spend time being trained to correctly administer our programs, be intelligent and well-versed in how to teach young people and hold them accountable, and be ready to start tutoring on day one. You must have impeccable oral and written communication, as we teach a lot of writing, comprehension, and grammar. You must have experience teaching or tutoring, preferably with a college degree or teaching credential.

Hours are typically after 2:00 or 3:00 pm on weekdays and morning/afternoon on Saturdays. The ability to work Saturday is a requirement for all of my new hires.

Our tutors must be excited about education and willing to work hard. This position is not just homework help. We have effective programs that you will be required to train on and learn to administer, but you should be able to start tutoring right away. It is more rigorous than a typical tutoring job, but you will have ample opportunity to shadow, study, and be trained. You must be able to start immediately and have reliable transportation.

Pay ranges based on experience and abilities. If you have a teaching credential or are a professional with a degree already, your starting rate will be higher. We have a raise structure based on performance, availability, and student retention.

I personally test all of our applicants during the interview, so if you do not have the aforementioned skills or experience, please refrain from applying. I am looking for serious applicants only with prior experience tutoring students and/or working with children that can stay in the position for at least a year.
