Position: Drone Pilot Intern

Type: Internship / Project-Based

Compensation: Compensation for qualified pilots and customer projects is negotiable and will be discussed based on certification, experience, project requirements, and responsibilities.

 

Position Overview

UDS is seeking a Drone Pilot Intern to support commercial, municipal, construction, environmental, and infrastructure data-capture projects.

 

The pilot will work closely with GIS and infrastructure data personnel to safely collect high-quality aerial information that can be converted into reports, maps, models, and infrastructure intelligence.

 

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and executing drone missions.

• Capture aerial photos and videos of buildings and infrastructure.

• Support roof and exterior building inspections.

• Capture data for construction progress monitoring.

• Support storm-damage documentation.

• Capture imagery for GIS mapping and asset inventories.

• Support photogrammetry and 3D modeling missions.

• Conduct pre-flight and post-flight procedures.

• Assist with flight planning and airspace compliance.

• Maintain flight logs and mission documentation.

• Inspect and maintain drone equipment.

• Follow FAA regulations and UDS safety procedures.

• Coordinate with GIS specialists to ensure the correct data is captured.

• Support municipal, commercial real estate, construction, waterway, and infrastructure projects.


 

Preferred Qualifications

• Student or recent graduate in Aviation, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Engineering, GIS,

Construction, or a related field.

• FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate strongly preferred for pilots operating commercial missions.

• Drone flight experience preferred.

• Understanding of flight planning and airspace regulations.

• Experience with mapping or enterprise drone operations is a plus.

• Experience with RTK, thermal imaging, photogrammetry, or inspection missions is a plus.

• Reliable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented.

 

Compensation

UDS is willing to discuss paid project opportunities with qualified FAA Part 107 pilots, particularly when interns participate in customer-facing commercial missions.

 

Compensation may be structured by project, flight assignment, hourly rate, or another mutually agreed arrangement.

 

Growth Opportunity
The goal is to develop strong candidates into future UDS Drone Pilots, Drone Operations Specialists, or Infrastructure Inspection Specialists as customer demand grows.
