Position Summary
The Career Advising Team (CAT) Intern serves as a peer educator and ambassador for the University of Idaho Career Services. This position supports career readiness initiatives by providing basic student career advising, delivering presentations, assisting with outreach efforts, and helping students connect with career resources. The Associate Director (AD) of Career Advising will provide supervision of the CAT Intern.
Position Responsibilities
Career Advising & Student Support
- Provide individual peer career readiness advising on topics including:
- Resume and cover letter development
- Job and internship searching
- Interview preparation
- LinkedIn profile development and networking strategies
- Refer students to Career Consultants for career advising needs.
- Support the creation and delivery of educational content and career resources.
- Assist students in navigating Career Services resources and the Handshake platform.
Education Development
- Provide educational information on career-related topics including job application documents, interviewing, job & internship searching, LinkedIn/networking, and graduate school.
- Facilitate peer-to-peer learning opportunities related to career readiness competencies and professional development opportunities through presentations/workshops and tabling events.
- Willing to develop public speaking skills
Outreach & Communications
- Represent Career Services at tabling events, campus programs, and outreach activities.
- Promote Career Services programs, resources, career fairs, and events through in-person engagement and digital communication.
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Career Services and the University of Idaho.
- Promote career services, resources, presentations/workshops, and events to students, alumni, and the university community.
Event & Program Support
- Assist with Career Services events, workshops, activities, and university-wide programs.
- Support Career Service events with setup, registration, participant engagement, special projects and initiatives.
Administrative
- Provide excellent front line customer service, including greeting students and answering office phone calls and emailing.
- Assist the Career Consultant in collecting, tracking, and maintaining student engagement data, including career advising appointments/drop-ins, workshop attendance, presentation participation, and event outcomes.
- Assist with Career Services, Strategic Enrollment Management, and University-wide events.
