Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Organize and participate in rehabilitative programs that help restore vocational and daily living skills, as well as general independence, to disabled persons.

Direct services for school age children as a related service to educational services under the supervision of the occupational therapist.

Qualifications

·       Graduate from an accredited college in Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

·       Licensed by the National Board for Certified Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)

·       Licensed by the North Dakota State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice

·       Pass the background checks

General Responsibilities

           Maintain confidentiality.

          Reliable in terms of good work attendance, punctuality and work ethic.

          Have basic computer knowledge for word processing, and internet skills.

          Required to have valid driver's license.

          Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team whose purpose is to determine an appropriate educational program for students with disabilities.

          Attend in-services in OT to maintain license and keep current on methods and procedures.

Responsibilities Specific to COTA Position

             1.         Provide direct therapy to students with special needs, under the supervision of OTR.

             2.         Carry out therapy programs outlined by the therapist following instructions by the therapist.

   3.         Attend student staffing at the request of OTR, teachers, parents.

             4.         Meet with therapist weekly to discuss programs, student's progress, etc.

             5.         Chart individual progress under the direction of OTR.

             6.         Provide therapy schedule to all schools with students being served.

             7.         Update/Chart students IEP's.

             8.         Order materials/equipment as needed for students with unique needs.

             9.         Maintain current student data forms throughout the school year.
