Interventionist and Testing Skills Teacher (26/27 School Year)

The Interventionist and Testing Skills Teacher provides academic support to students and teaches testing skills for middle and high school students. This role is designed to bridge academic gaps and build the strategic skills, content knowledge, and confidence students need to succeed on high-stakes standardized tests.

Core Responsibilities

1. Direct Scholar Support 

• Provide in-class, one on one, or small group support to scholars across assigned classes/grades
• Reinforce teacher instruction through:
  • re-teaching directions
  • guided practice
  • check-ins for understanding
  • small group support inside the classroom
• Support scholars in staying on task, completing work, and engaging appropriately in class routines

2. Instructional Support

• Assist teachers with the implementation of strong teaching practices for students requiring additional supports such as:
  • chunking tasks
  • preferential seating
  • extended time
  • visual supports
  • note supports and guided organizers
• Provide real-time scaffolds while maintaining classroom expectations and culture systems
• Support transitions, routines, and classroom systems to maximize learning time

3. Explicitly teach test-taking strategies for the Regents, SAT/ACT, and AP exams, including:

• Pacing and time management
• Process of elimination and answer elimination strategies
• Annotating and breaking down complex questions/passages
• Managing test anxiety and building stamina
• Deliver targeted content review and practice sessions aligned to identified skill gaps using diagnostic and practice test data
• Facilitate small group or one-on-one test prep sessions to build scholar confidence and readiness for high-stakes assessments

4. Collaboration & Team Support

• Attend weekly check-ins to review schedules and priorities
• Coordinate with teachers and deans as needed to support scholar success
• Step into coverage/support needs as assigned during staffing shortages

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; NY State Teaching Certification preferred
• Prior experience working with middle and high school-aged students in an academic background
• Ability to work calmly and consistently with scholars who need behavioral and academic support
• Strong communication, reliability, and attention to detail

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $58,000 - $88,000 (depending on experience). In addition to competitive salaries, LAB benefits package includes:
