Reports to: Digital Communications Strategist
Position Summary
The Digital Content Assistant helps produce the video, social media, and email content that NMU's Foundation and Alumni Office sends out to graduates and supporters around the country. The work falls into three areas: video production and editing, social media content, and email building.
You will work directly with the Digital Communications Strategist on content that reaches more than 21,000 alumni and donors across our platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, plus a monthly newsletter audience.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Video Production and Editing
- Shoot and edit short-form video for Instagram Reels and Facebook
- Cut long-form alumni interviews into shorter clips for each platform
- Shoot b-roll and campus footage around NMU and Marquette
- Support alumni interview shoots: setup, audio, second camera
- Keep project files and footage organized, and build a reusable footage library
2. Social Media Content
- Ideate for social media posts
- Draft captions for review
- Find alumni to feature through sources like NMU news, The North Wind, and local coverage
- Build content across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
- Schedule approved posts across all three accounts
3. Email / Web
- Build monthly alumni newsletter, event invitations, and departmental newsletters
- Update webpages on the Foundation and Alumni websites as assigned
Alumni and Foundation events occasionally need photo, video, or on-site help, including Homecoming weekend. While this is not a main part of the job, occasional availability for evening events is expected.
Qualifications
Required
- Video editing experience in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, or something comparable, with samples you can share
- Comfort behind a camera
- Willingness to appear on camera in social content
- Careful attention to detail
- Ability to work independently between check-ins and keep track of deadlines
- Ability to keep alumni and donor information confidential
- Professional presence around alumni, donors, and campus staff
Nice to have
- Photoshop, Lightroom, After Effects, or Premiere Pro experience
- Photography experience, especially events and low light
- Familiarity with Instagram Reels as someone who makes them
- Coursework in Multimedia Journalism, Communication Studies, Digital Cinema, Marketing, or Design
- Interest in NMU history, Marquette, and the alumni community
Additional Details
- Hours: Up to 20 hours/week during the academic year.
- Compensation: $15.00/hour.
- Term: Fall 2026 semester, with the expectation of continuing through spring.
