The Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (CELL) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing public safety through education. About the Role
The Special Projects Intern will gain hands-on experience in national security, public safety education, and nonprofit operations by supporting a variety of CELL programs, events, and initiatives. This role is ideal for students or emerging professionals who are passionate about security studies, public education, and community engagement.

The intern will contribute to research, content development, program execution, and the ongoing enhancement of the CELL’s nationally recognized exhibit. This position provides exposure to subject-matter experts, the ability to support strategic projects, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

Programs & Public Engagement
• Deliver engaging training, tours, and presentations to internal and external audiences.
• Assist with the planning and execution of CELL programs, such as the Speaker Series, exhibit, and community training.
• Create audience-appropriate marketing materials and messaging to support outreach for programs and events.
Project & Event Support
• Assist project managers with scheduling, milestone tracking, and workflow coordination.
• Prepare logistics, materials, and documentation for events, programs, and grant initiatives.
• Provide consistent and timely communication to team members regarding project updates.
Research & Content Development
• Conduct research on domestic and international terrorism, national security, homeland security, and related public safety topics.
• Draft and edit content for the CELL Exhibit, trainings, and educational programs.
• Synthesize complex information into accessible summaries, briefings, and learning materials.

Required Qualifications
• Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student in a relevant field strongly preferred.
• Strong interest in national security, international relations, countering violent extremism, or public safety.
• Experience with project coordination or program support preferred.
• Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information responsibly.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced professional environment.
• Positive, proactive, and collaborative team contributor.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.

Compensation & Hours
• Hourly Rate: $20/hour
• Schedule: 20–25 hours per week during standard business hours; ideally two to three full workdays.
• Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for program support.
• Internships typically span one to two academic terms or the summer session.
