Intern, Academy for Lifelong Learners

Position Title: Intern, Academy for Lifelong Learners 

Anticipated Start Date: September 2026 

Number of Hours: 10-20 hours per week, taking place between 8 am and 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Hours are flexible based on your class schedule!  

Application deadline: The priority deadline for applications is September 1st. Applications may continue to be considered until September 14th or until position is filled.

Pay: $13.00 per hour 

The UW Eau Claire Continuing Education department is seeking a student intern to help prepare for Academy for Lifelong Learners. This full-day annual event offers educational workshops and activities for nearly 400 people aged 55 and better. The student intern plays a critical role in the development and execution of this large event, and the intern will gain real-world experience in event-planning, communications, and public relations. The student intern will work directly with the multiple event stakeholders—sponsors, presenters, committee members, on-campus partners, participants, and volunteers. 

Academy for Lifelong Learners will be held on June 8, 2027, at UW – Eau Claire. Employment dates will run September 2025-approximately June 11, 2027. The student intern may have the opportunity to stay on for the next Academy for Lifelong Learners. For more information about this event, see our website. 

We are looking for individuals with strong creative and critical thinking skills and commitment to process improvement. Students with majors related to Communications, Marketing or Public Relations are strongly encouraged to apply, though all majors will be considered. Responsibilities May Include: 

Coordinating, attending and note-taking at planning committee meetings (often scheduled on Tuesday mornings) 

Serving as the initial point of contact for community members, business partners, and event stake holders. Communicating across campus departments to ensure program logistics are met (catering, A/V, room assignments, facilities, parking) 

Organizing and communicating with event sponsors and volunteers—from recruitment to finalizing logistical details 

Learning and implementing mass communication technologies to connect with presenters, sponsors, and volunteers (including utilizing mail merge from Microsoft Office) Preparing event materials for participants, sponsors, presenters, and volunteers 

Assessing program success and future needs through compiling and reviewing program evaluations 

Required Qualifications: 

The intern must be available to provide on-site assistance for event set up on June 7, 2027, and at the event on June 8, 2027. 

Willingness to learn new processes and technologies. 

Ability to problem-solve. 

Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks. 

Strong communication and organizational skills 

Detail-oriented 

Commitment to continuous process improvement and creative solutions 

Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) 

Adaptability and flexibility 

Availability to work during Winterim and time between end of spring semester and date of program 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience working with digital survey platforms and mail merges. 

Previous experience in event planning or public relations 

Previous experience or interest in working with older adults 

Previous experience working with volunteers 

Works study accepted, but not required
