Sales Engineer Assistant
Sales Engineer Assistant
USA Coil & Air designs and manufactures custom commercial HVAC coils. Every job is engineered to order — a building has a specific requirement, and we design and build the coil that meets it, regardless of who made the original equipment. The engineering happens here in Glen Mills, Delaware County.
The role
This is an entry-level engineering position and the first step on our Sales Engineer track.
Sales Engineers own customer relationships, coil selection, pricing, and what we commit to. A Sales Engineer Assistant works alongside a Sales Engineer and handles the work behind those decisions — research, verification, checking, and quote preparation. You learn the product and the business by working on real jobs, with an experienced engineer next to you who can explain why.
You'll start in a structured internal training program covering coil fundamentals, our products, our systems, and how a quote gets built, before moving onto live work.
What you'll do
Coil selection and thermal design. Using our selection software, you'll size coils against real performance requirements — rows, fin spacing, circuiting, tube configuration — to hit a specified capacity within the physical constraints of the equipment it has to fit. This is applied heat transfer and fluid mechanics on live projects, and it's the core technical skill of the job. You'll produce first-draft drawings and performance data for the Sales Engineer's review.
Engineering research. Before a quote is written, work out what the Sales Engineer needs to know — what's actually being asked for, whether we've engineered this application before, what we built last time and how it performed, and what the constraints are at that building.
Verification. Check selections, drawings, and math before anything goes to a customer. On a custom product, a wrong selection becomes a wrong coil in a building. Catching it before release is real engineering work and we treat it that way.
Project records. Keep active jobs accurate as they age — specifications, contacts, correspondence, and customer-provided documents in our CRM and quoting system.
Your Sales Engineer reviews everything and releases it to the customer. Over your first year, the range of work handed to you widens as you show you can handle it.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline, completed or completing within the next year
- Coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, or fluid mechanics
- Comfort with numbers and the patience to check them
- Clear written communication — much of this job is telling an engineer what you found
- Willingness to ask questions and to be corrected
Prior HVAC experience isn't required. We'll teach you the product.
What you don't need
Sales experience. This is not a sales job — it's an engineering job that supports a sales process.
Why this role exists
At most companies, a new engineer spends their first years several rungs away from the people who really know the product. Here you'll sit right next to them. We're building the next generation of Sales Engineers, and this role is the apprenticeship for that.
About the pay range
This role is open to both four-year engineering graduates and engineering technology graduates, and the posted range reflects that. Starting pay depends on degree and experience. Everyone hired into this role goes through the same training program and is on the same path.
