Overview
With equal focus on access initiatives and professional development, the goal of this Fellowship is to educate the next generation of leaders in the accessibility field while providing a bridge between academic research and practice at LCPA. This fellow will work collaboratively across departments to support accessibility initiatives, including Access Ambassadors, a job training and skills building program for teens with developmental disabilities; Passport to the Arts, which offers free programs for children, teens, and adults with disabilities; and Lincoln Center Moments, a performance and workshop series for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. The Fellow will research best practices in programs and outreach for disability populations and meet with leaders in the field. In addition to contributing to ongoing projects, and access to professional development and mentoring, the Fellow will complete a capstone project that demonstrates innovation in program development that will be presented to staff.
This Fellowship is 10 months; up to 20 hours/week at $28/hour, mainly in person with some remote hours.
The ideal candidate is a current or recent graduate student in Disability Studies, Special Education, Social Work, Museum Studies/Education, or other similar programs. Candidates with personal or professional experience with disability are strongly preferred.
Access Programs Fellowship projects may include:
- Researching, planning and supporting Relaxed Performances, especially welcoming for people who are neurodivergent, and Passport to the Arts, a program for children, teens and adults with disabilities and their families
- Preparing for and welcoming Lincoln Center Moments participants in a program designed for people with dementia and their caregivers
- Supporting staffing, registration and correspondence with program participants for access programs
- Contributing to Access Ambassador program, in-school skill building workshops, and job coaching students during their volunteer front-of-house shifts at Lincoln Center.
- Designing, implementing and analyzing audience feedback
- Developing new partners, programs, and supports for Access Ambassadors, Passport to the Arts or Lincoln Center Moments
- Researching, implementing and staffing accommodations for performances
- Providing administrative departmental support through phone, email and in person at events
This Fellow will be required to work flexible hours, including weekdays, nights, and weekends. Due to its emphasis on family engagement, events for our Passport to the Arts programs occur on Saturdays and Sundays across each season.
