Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant

GA Position information

 

Texas A&M University – Kingsville is a NCAA Division II University, located in South Texas. TAMUK sponsors 16 men’s and women’s athletic programs in the Lone Star Conference (LSC). 

 

Texas A&M University – Kingsville is seeking one (1) Graduate Assistant –Athletic Communications position for a ten-month position renewable for one year for a total of two academic years. 

Start Date: August 22, 2026

 

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

•             Serve as primary/secondary communications contact for assigned sport programs. 

•             Create and distribute content for assigned athletic programs in line with the department and program vision.

•             Assist is the production of all Javelina Athletic home events regarding gameday operations and staffing

•             Manage social media channels for assigned sports programs.

•             Design, write and edit various communications materials, such as student-athlete bios, press releases and feature stories for the department’s website.

•             Manage current and historical team information (rosters, statistics, record, photos, videos) of assigned sports.

•             Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Compensation for this position includes both a tuition waiver up to 18 hours and a housing assistance 

 

 

Requirements and preferred qualifications:

•             Earned Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Journalism, Communications, Sports Media, Sports Management or a related field.

•             Strong verbal and written communication skills.

•             Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules.

•             Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a production team covering a live event.

•             Effective time management skills.

•             Ability to work evenings/weekends and maintain a flexible work schedule.

•             Background working in and filming athletics.

•             Demonstrated aptitude in social media. Familiarity with managing accounts and serving as the primary administrator.

•             Experience with Adobe Premier, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign preferred.

•             Graphic design experience.

•             Experience working with web technologies, including basic HTML and CMS tools (such as SideArm Sports, Genius Sports) preferred.
