Product Data Specialist – Taxonomy, Content & AI

Early Career / Recent Graduate

We're looking for a smart, curious early-career professional who is unusually good at both organizing information and communicating it clearly.

This isn't a traditional data analyst position, and it isn't a traditional copywriting position.

You'll work with large product catalogs for leading industrial manufacturers and distributors, helping turn inconsistent, messy product information into structured, accurate, useful product data.

On one project, you might determine the best way to organize thousands of industrial products into a logical category hierarchy. On another, you might research the technical differences between similar products, define the attributes customers need to compare them, standardize inconsistent product specifications, or turn raw manufacturer information into clear and compelling product copy.

We also use AI extensively. You'll learn how to use AI and custom software to accelerate research, classification, content generation, data enrichment, and other repetitive work — while learning to recognize when AI gets something wrong and human judgment needs to take over.

You might be a great fit if you...

  • Are an excellent writer and editor
  • Have strong research skills and enjoy learning about unfamiliar subjects
  • Naturally notice inconsistencies, patterns, and things that "don't belong"
  • Like organizing complicated information into clean, logical structures
  • Can move comfortably between creative and analytical work
  • Are extremely detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Are curious about AI and already experiment with tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or similar technologies
  • Are comfortable working in spreadsheets and with structured information
  • Take ownership of your work and finish things
  • Don't mind getting into the weeds when that's what it takes to get something right

You do not need to know industrial products when you start. You do need to be willing and able to learn quickly.

What you'll learn

You'll develop expertise in areas including:

  • Product taxonomy and classification
  • Product attributes and specifications
  • Product content and technical copywriting
  • Product Information Management (PIM)
  • E-commerce product data
  • Data normalization and quality
  • AI-assisted research and content generation
  • Large-scale catalog optimization

You'll also learn how product information moves through manufacturers and distributors and ultimately reaches websites, sales teams, search engines, e-commerce platforms, and customers.

Who we're looking for

This is an early-career position and could be a strong fit for a graduating senior or recent graduate.

We're less concerned with your specific major than with how you think, write, research, and solve problems.

Strong candidates could come from English, writing, communications, information science, business, marketing, economics, liberal arts, technical communications, or other disciplines.

We're especially interested in people who can demonstrate a combination of:

Strong writing + analytical thinking + intellectual curiosity + attention to detail.

Previous experience with product data, e-commerce, industrial products, taxonomy, PIM systems, merchandising, or catalog management is helpful but not required.

One more thing

We don't expect you to have years of experience.

We do expect you to be able to show us how you think.

Candidates who advance in the process will complete a short practical exercise involving product research, writing, categorization, and structured product information. It isn't a programming test.

If you're the kind of person who can look at a messy collection of information and immediately start thinking about how to make it clearer, cleaner, more consistent, and more useful, we'd like to hear from you.
