E-Commerce Manager
Books of Wonder, New York City's oldest and largest independent children's bookstore, is looking for a creative, entrepreneurial, tech-savvy booklover to take primary responsibility for the performance and growth of our online business.
Books of Wonder has been a destination for children's booklovers and the people who create them for more than four decades. Our store features a carefully curated selection of new and antique children's books, along with a gallery of original art and posters from children's books. Our online store brings that unique collection to customers around the country and around the world.
The E-Commerce ManagerĀ will take primary responsibility for the performance, growth, and day-to-day operation of the online business and report directly to the company president. The position will oversee the staff and functions supporting e-commerce and work closely with the Store Manager and Social Media Coordinator on activities that span the online and in-store businesses.
Responsibilities
- Grow the online business: Develop and implement strategies to increase online sales; monitor sales, analytics, inventory, and website performance; and identify new opportunities for growth.
- Lead digital marketing: Develop and oversee digital marketing initiatives that drive traffic and sales, including email marketing, SEO, online advertising, online promotions, and pre-order campaigns. Explore and test new digital marketing channels and use analytics to measure results and continually improve performance.
- Manage the website: Oversee the Books of Wonder website and online catalog through Shopify and other marketplaces, ensuring that product information, pricing, availability, images, and inventory are accurate and up to date.
- Develop online promotions: Create promotions, pre-order campaigns, special offers, email marketing, and other initiatives to drive sales. Identify opportunities to increase sales of books, collectible vintage posters, and other merchandise.
- Lead the e-commerce team: Oversee fulfillment operations, publisher/event coordination, and e-commerce content and communications. Establish priorities, delegate effectively, improve procedures, and ensure that work is completed accurately and on schedule.
- Coordinate across departments: Work closely with the Store Manager and events team on author and illustrator events, stock signings, pre-orders, and related online promotions. Work with the Social Media Coordinator to align social-media activity with e-commerce initiatives.
- Analyze and improve: Use sales and customer data to identify opportunities, solve problems, improve the customer experience, and increase online revenue.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate combines a genuine love of books with strong e-commerce instincts. We're looking for someone who is entrepreneurial, highly organized, comfortable with technology, and able to take ownership and make decisions independently.
Required:
- Strong hands-on experience managing a Shopify-based e-commerce business, including managing an existing online store, updating products and collections, managing inventory, and identifying and implementing improvements.
- Strong interest in children's books and enthusiasm for Books of Wonder.
- Experience managing or supervising a team.
- Excellent organizational, project-management, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Good judgment, initiative, and the ability to solve problems independently.
Preferred:
- Experience with digital advertising, web analytics, SEO, and email marketing.
- Experience with online marketplaces or e-commerce fulfillment.
- Knowledge of children's books, publishing, or bookselling.
