Human Resources Intern
Horizon Health, Inc.
Human Resources Intern (Paid)
Pierz, MN (Remote acceptable) • $15/hour • ~10 -20 hours/week • Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027
Horizon Health is a nonprofit that serves older adults, family caregivers, and their families across Central Minnesota. We are hiring a paid Human Resources intern to help build the systems that keep our care roles filled. You will do real project work that makes it easier to hire, welcome, and support the people who serve our community. This role is funded through a Sourcewell internship grant.
What you will work on
Five projects, start to finish. You will build them, test them, and hand them off with clear guides.
- Application form: Rebuild our online job application so it is short, mobile-friendly, and sends each applicant to the right director automatically.
- Careers content: Create website content on our benefits, our culture, and what it is like to work in aging services.
- Director posting tool: Set up a simple system that lets directors post and update their own job openings, plus a short training so they can use it.
- Hiring process: Document one consistent hiring process and build a tracking view so no candidate gets missed.
- Onboarding: Build a 30, 60, and 90-day check-in system for new employees, including automated emails that confirm key steps and invite questions.
What you will gain
- Real human resources experience in recruiting, onboarding, and workforce systems.
- Practical skills in process design, communications, and simple workplace technology.
- Work you can point to: live systems, written guides, and measurable results.
- Mentorship from Horizon Health staff in a professional nonprofit setting.
Who we are looking for
- Required: You are a high school graduate and enrolled at least part-time in a college or post-secondary program, or a recent graduate starting within two weeks of finishing.
- A good fit: You are studying or interested in human resources, business, communications, or a related field.
- You write clearly, stay organized, and finish what you start.
- You are comfortable learning simple online tools. No advanced tech skills needed.
- You care about older adults and the people who care for them.
Schedule and pay
- Pay: $15 per hour.
- Hours: About 10-20 hours per week, flexible around your class schedule.
- Dates: Fall 2026 through spring 2027, finishing by June 2027.
- Location: Remote, with a preference to have one in person meeting with staff per month, ideally in Pierz, MN. St. Cloud or Brainerd may be options for some months if that is preferred. We would consider remote-only applications although preference will be given to some degree of in-person meetings, so be clear in your application materials the frequency, if any, which you would be able to meet in person. We do have office space available if you prefer the position to be an in-person position.
How to apply
Send your application and resume in the online form. Tell us your school, your program, and your general availability. We review applications as they arrive and will reach out to set up a conversation.
