Content Strategist and Writer

Content Strategist & Writer

Scholarships.com | Highland Park, IL | Full-Time | On-Site

About Scholarships.com

Since 1999, Scholarships.com has helped more than 25 million students search for scholarships and navigate the cost of college.

Today, we're building on that foundation by combining high-quality content, dependable scholarship data, modern search strategy, and AI-assisted workflows to better serve students and families.

About the Role

We're looking for a curious, detail-oriented Content Strategist & Writer who loves researching, writing, asking good questions, and turning complex information into content people can actually understand and use.

This role combines four primary areas:

Content Creation | Research | SEO & Search | Scholarship Data

You'll help create and improve the content students and families rely on, research topics related to scholarships and higher education, optimize content for how people search today, and help ensure the scholarship information on Scholarships.com is accurate and current.

Exceptional recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do

  • Research, write, edit, and update articles, guides, scholarship resources, and other student- and parent-facing content.
  • Research scholarship, financial aid, college, and education-related topics and turn complex information into clear, accurate, and engaging content.
  • Develop ideas for new content based on student needs, search behavior, emerging topics, and opportunities to improve Scholarships.com.
  • Apply SEO best practices, including search intent, keyword research, headings, internal linking, page structure, and content freshness.
  • Help optimize content for both traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered search and answer platforms.
  • Review and improve existing content to keep it accurate, relevant, useful, and competitive in search results.
  • Review scholarship listings for accuracy, completeness, eligibility requirements, deadlines, award amounts, and clear descriptions.
  • Research and verify scholarship information using credible sources and reconcile conflicting information when necessary.
  • Identify ways to improve how scholarship information and other content are organized and presented to students.
  • Use tools such as ChatGPT and Claude to assist with research, content development, ideation, and quality checks—while independently verifying information and applying human judgment before anything is published.
  • Collaborate with our content, product, and engineering teams to continually improve Scholarships.com.

Who We're Looking For

We're especially interested in candidates from research- and writing-intensive academic backgrounds, including:

History | English | Journalism | Communications | Political Science | Philosophy | Sociology | Education | Marketing

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Are an exceptional recent graduate or have relevant experience through internships, employment, research, publications, campus organizations, or similar work.
  • Have excellent research and source-analysis skills.
  • Can determine whether information is trustworthy and verify facts before publishing.
  • Are a strong writer, editor, and proofreader.
  • Can make complicated information clear and concise.
  • Are intellectually curious and highly attentive to detail.
  • Are interested in SEO, search behavior, and how people discover information online.
  • Are interested in scholarships, higher education, financial aid, or helping students navigate the college process.
  • Are comfortable using AI tools while understanding when information needs to be independently researched and verified.
  • Are comfortable learning CMS platforms, spreadsheets, analytics tools, and other digital technologies.

What You'll Gain

This is an opportunity to build practical experience across content strategy, professional writing, SEO, research, AI-assisted workflows, and scholarship-data curation while contributing to a platform used by students and families nationwide.

You'll work directly with experienced team members across content, product, and engineering and have opportunities to take on greater responsibility as you grow.
