Job Summary:

The Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC) searches for a student assistant to help students and assistant engineers setting up fluidic test loop and conduct experiment on different type of heat exchange devices. 

Duties: 

  • Assist in the construction of experimental apparatuses, including activities such as plumbing; fabrication with wood, plastic, and metal; electrical connections; and control systems for automation
  • Perform physical measurement of systems in laboratory
  • Present work progress to the supervisor
  • Assist in performing data analysis, statistical assessments, and data visualization, and CAD modeling

Qualifications:

  • Student in an engineering program and/or relevant engineering experience (especially Mechanical and Aero Engineering)
  • High proficiency in verbal and written communication
  • Familiarity with heat transfer, thermodynamics, electric circuits, control systems, and energy conversion
  • Proficiency with some data acquisition concepts and programming in Matlab/Simulink, and LabVIEW
  • Familiarity with data analysis, statistics, and data visualization
  • Ability to self-direct on short term goals, and to collaborate actively as a team member to innovate and develop longer term research project directions.
  • “Hands on” small-scale construction skills (using hand and power tools, wood construction, plumbing, electrical connections, and control systems).
  • Ability to design experiments and analyze data, interpret results
  • Ability to work both independently and under the coordinated guidance of the research team.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • High attention to detail and a desire to produce quality work.
  • Available to work at least 10 hrs/wk on a reliable schedule during the academic year.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and appropriate training.
