General Description
The Early Childhood Intervention Specialist is responsible for delivering specialized instruction and managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for preschool-aged students with disabilities. This role ensures compliance with federal and state special education laws while fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments. As part of a New Tech Network district, the specialist collaborates with educators, families, and service providers to support academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development during critical early developmental stages.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and implement specialized instruction tailored to meet the unique developmental and learning needs of early childhood students as outlined in their IEPs.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure full compliance with federal (IDEA) and Ohio state special education regulations.
- Utilize Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) frameworks and evidence-based interventions to improve student outcomes.
- Apply differentiated instructional strategies and provide accommodations/modifications within inclusive early childhood settings.
- Facilitate regular progress monitoring and data collection to evaluate student growth and inform instructional adjustments.
- Collaborate with the building leadership team, general education teachers, and related service providers (e.g., speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists) to support inclusive practices.
- Maintain professional communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and upcoming IEP meetings.
- Integrate district-selected technology and software, including Frontline/Applitrack and Google Workspace, for instructional and administrative tasks.
- Ensure a safe and orderly learning environment in accordance with District Classroom and Facility Care Guidelines.
- Assume responsibility for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of technology and early childhood education best practices utilized by the district.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
- Licensure: Valid Ohio Early Childhood Intervention Specialist teaching license (typically PK-3) issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
- Experience: Experience working with preschool students with diverse learning needs, including those with significant disabilities.
- Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of IEP development software, progress monitoring tools, and special education compliance standards.
- Instructional Skill: Familiarity with MTSS frameworks, differentiated instruction, and evidence-based interventions suitable for early learners.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physical Activity: Regularly required to stand, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to walk and sit at student level. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or lift.
- Lifting: Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Environment: The noise level is usually moderate. The employee will regularly work indoors and occasionally outdoors for student supervision during play and transit.
Working Conditions
- Hours: 7.75 hours per day.
- Contract: 185 days per school year calendar.

Both the elementary and secondary campuses have shared community spaces.
Winton Woods City Schools serves students and their families in the communities of Forest Park, Greenhills and Springfield Township and is an open enrollment district.
Both Winton Woods Intermediate School (grades 5-6) and Winton Woods Middle School (grades 7-8) are now New Tech Network schools, with a focus on project-based learning. The middle school offers math and foreign language classes for high school credit, advanced classes in science and language arts, elective engineering courses that introduce students to technology and robotics, and many sports and extra-curricular clubs. Our fifth and sixth grade building offers strong academics and a variety of fine arts options�band, orchestra, choir and visual arts, with many extra-curricular activities and clubs.
Winton Woods High School is fully accredited by Advanced Ed and is a full member of the Southern Regional Educational Board (SREB) High Schools That Work (HSTW) school improvement network. Every student on the main campus who is enrolled in College Prep, Honors or Advanced Placement courses is attached to the Academy of Global Studies (AGS) or the New Tech Academy (NTA).
